Crazy as it sounds, this school year will be over in less than three months. So as you all make sure that everything with your grades is good and in order for the 3rd Qtr (as the quarter ends this Friday), it's also time to start looking ahead to the next school year.
I'm sure everyone has learned of the change to Block Scheduling for next year. As this is new, much of the plan is still being formed so may still be subject to change, but basically you will switch to only taking 5 classes at a time, instead of 6. All classes will be taken by semester blocks except for English and Core Social Studies--those will rotate on an A-day/B-day basis for the entire school year. So for the whole school year you will be enrolling in 8 classes--English & Core Social Studies all year, 3 other classes in the first semester, and 3 other classes in the 2nd semester.
We will be beginning the Registration process over the next few weeks, but for now it would probably be helpful to start reviewing the Course Catalogue and begin thinking about what 8 classes you would like to register for next year.
Last Minute Advisory Potluck! Thursday, Oct. 29
Because of the rain we've got a kinda crazy schedule for Thursday, Oct. 29. As a result, it turns out we've got a lot of time with Advisory that day (tomorrow), including a 50-minute lunch time together! Let's take advantage of this--if you get this message in time and are able/willing, consider bringing in something tasty to share with the class.
We'll enjoy whatever folks can bring in, and maybe watch something or play some games together--it should be fun. Snacks, treats, drinks, entrees or sides are all welcome! :) And because it is so short notice (thanks a lot rain...) it will be a true pot-luck. So students are still encouraged to bring something for their own lunch.
So again, if you're able to/up for it/willing to, have your student bring something in tomorrow and we'll enjoy it together for an extra long lunch from 11:20-12:10. Thanks!
The school wants to know that you think! So take 10 minutes or so to complete the online survey linked below. I've been instructed to check to make sure you did it, so once it's complete, let me know so I can come over and check off that you did it. Thanks!
Canvas Training Video
So I know that not everybody had a functioning computer today to work on while we watched the Canvas training video. Feel free to watch it again below and try it out at home. It's a new system, so it will take all of us a little time before we have it down perfectly, but we have to start somewhere. Please let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to help. Thanks!
NCEdCloud Account Setup
I think a number of people got this done today, but just incase you did not, here is the instructions again on how to set up your NCEdCloud Account. It is important that you get this set up before next week, as we will be getting a tutorial/introduction to Canvas. (Plus your teachers might start using it too.) Let me know if you run into any problems, and don't forget to get locks from the front desk so you can start using your lockers.
Welcome Class of 2019!
Welcome to High School! I'm excited to get to know you, and help you as you move through High School. As an Advisory Group, we will stay together for your four years of High School, and one day, hopefully, we'll all celebrate your High School Graduation together.
I actually just went through that with this group pictured above--they would hate that I still have this photo up (it's from their sophomore year). One of our first tasks when you get here will be to come up with a name, logo, and slogan for our Advisory. Once we get all those things, I will update the website accordingly.
Perhaps I'll see you at Open House, or if not, I'll see you on Monday.
